Adat Shalom Synagogue: A Vibrant Community
Adat Shalom is a diverse and dynamic congregation that fosters connection, learning, and spiritual growth through a variety of interest groups and sub-communities.

Family Programming
At Adat Shalom, we believe in creating a warm, welcoming environment where Jewish families can come together to build relationships, celebrate traditions, and strengthen Jewish values. Through engaging programs, we provide opportunities for families to make meaningful memories—both in the synagogue and at home. With the guidance of our clergy, educators, and parents, we empower families to deepen their connection to Judaism in fun and fulfilling ways.
This program is endowed in memory of Oscar Cook and in honor of Jeanette Cook.

Adat Shalom Sisterhoood
For over 68 years, the Adat Shalom Sisterhood has been a vital part of our synagogue, bringing together women of all ages to learn, connect, and give back. Our Sisterhood hosts engaging programs, sponsors weekly Kiddush, manages a beautiful Judaic boutique, organizes a book club, and provides youth scholarships. We proudly support the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism and Torah Fund.
As times change, so do we. Our inclusive and welcoming Sisterhood encourages every woman in our congregation to participate, ensuring we remain a strong, supportive presence within Adat Shalom.

Adat Shalom Men’s Club
The Adat Shalom Men’s Club offers men of all ages the opportunity to connect, engage, and give back through social, cultural, and educational activities. Whether you’re looking for camaraderie, spiritual enrichment, or community service opportunities, the Men’s Club provides a meaningful way to get involved in synagogue life.
As a proud member of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC), we also have access to valuable resources designed to strengthen Jewish identity and leadership. One of our most beloved annual events is the Daddy-Daughter Dance, a cherished tradition that brings families together for a night of fun and connection.

Young Adult Group (Ages 21-40)
The Adat Shalom Young Adult Group fosters a welcoming and connected community for Jewish adults ages 21-40. Through a mix of social, educational, volunteer, and philanthropic events, we offer opportunities to deepen Jewish identity while forming lasting friendships. Whether through exclusive gatherings or events with the larger synagogue community, our group serves as the next generation of Adat Shalom, blending tradition with modern Jewish life.

Social Action & Tikkun Olam
At Adat Shalom, we are committed to Tikkun Olam—repairing the world. Our Social Action Group actively works to combat poverty, hunger, and injustice, both locally and globally.
We recognize that economic hardship affects many in our community, including those in Metro Detroit. In partnership with the Jewish Communal Relations Council of Metropolitan Detroit, we engage in initiatives that address food insecurity, housing, healthcare, and employment challenges. Our advocacy efforts bring together diverse groups—including Jewish and African American leaders—to work toward meaningful social change.

Housing the Homeless
Each August, Adat Shalom opens its doors to house members of the area’s homeless population, providing them with shelter, meals, and compassionate support.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact the synagogue office at 248-851-5100 and leave a message for Housing the Homeless coordinator Eva Hepner.
